Cotehardie and surcotte
The
artwork for this dress recreation was an illumination in Roman
de Girart de Roussillon (ca. 1450, Marriage of Girart de
Roussillon, Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, Vienna, Master
of Girart de Roussillon). The clothing consists of a 4 parts
chemise, a golden thread embroidered dark silk cotehardie and a
brocade surcotte. The accessory is a gold coated crown, a cross,
a belt with artificial precious stones and a rosary given by
Marsalek.
The
surcotte with deep armholes (so called gates to hell) is made of
red gold brocade with a golden underlining. The upper part is
covered by a white fur. In the middle of the chest are bezants
with red stones. The skirt of the surcotte is extended to the
train.
