Kuman Lady
Kipchaks
(Polovtsy) were a confederation of pastoralists and warriors of
Turkic origin who came from the region of the River Irtysh. In
13th century Kuman, or western Kipchak tribes, fled to Hungary,
and some of their warriors became mercenaries for the Latin
crusaders and the Byzantines.
The
clothing is inspired by illumination in Hungarian Kepes
Kronika painted in 1360. Gold brocade upper garment is based on extant kaftan. Next pages
shows inner garment, trousers and shirt.
